Facts about the Russian-speaking people groups in the U.S.:
- The estimated population among the Russian-speaking people in the United States is 6 million. New York and California are the largest states in which more than 1 million Russians reside.
- Most Russians in North America never have heard the gospel, primarily because it is not communicated in their language. Most are highly educated and will need to discuss and critically analyze the gospel message.
- Some still are heavily influenced by atheism taught by their former Communist government.
- In this country, they are free to learn about Jesus without pressure, persecution, and negative propaganda.
- A person witnessing to Russian-speaking people should be patient in developing a friendship and a level of trust.
- Help new immigrants with physical needs and in learning the English language.
- Russians are voracious readers. Christian literature, brochures, and other printed materials are good tools to introduce them to Christianity.
- Russian people are “building” oriented. For most of them, the church is not just a building; it is the presence of God.
